Behind Post Short Shots
This is a light warm-up drill suitable for before matches.
Set up with an assist player just to the side of the post with the ball, a shooter behind the post and slightly to the side, and a queue of other players in front of the post in line with the assist player.
- The assist player passes to the shooter who takes a shot then joins the back of the queue.
- As soon as they have passed the assist player starts walking out to the shooting position. While they do this they turn to face the new assist player so they can receive the ball while still moving.
- They then take their shot, and the process continues.
Another group of players can be doing the same activity on the other side of the post. This works best when there is a high scoring percentage, so is not suitable for players who will miss a high percentage of shots from this distance. Lots of misses mean difficult rebounding and the post becomes very congested.
For a more dynamic version, with a defender running out, see Behind Post Cross Shots.
